Later this year, Durban, South Africa will hold the 17th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The short name for the convention is Conference of Parties (COP). So, this year’s conference is nicknamed COP 17. For those who have not followed this convention in recent years, two years ago COP 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark caused a heavy breakdown in the decision-making process of the United Nations’ multilateral framework when it failed to deliver a climate deal.
